ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The Georgia Baptist Mission Board has released Gameplan for Evangelism, a new practical resource designed to help pastors lead their churches with greater clarity, confidence, and intentionality in sharing the gospel.
Developed by the GBMB evangelism team, Gameplan for Evangelism is the first in a planned series of tools aimed at strengthening evangelistic efforts among Georgia Baptist pastors. The resource was introduced as part of the board’s broader emphasis on reaching the state’s more than 7 million lost people.
The goal is to equip pastors to lead their churches with clarity and confidence in evangelism. “What if every Georgia Baptist knew what the gospel is and knew how to share it?” said GBMB Executive Director Thomas Hammond. “What if everyone in Georgia clearly understood the gospel and how to communicate it effectively?”
That question, Parr said, has guided the development of the new resource.
“Through the years,” explained Steve Parr, evangelism strategy director for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, “studies of churches that thrive in evangelism reveal they have one thing in common: intentionality,” Parr said. “Gameplan for Evangelism is a tool to help pastors in churches of any size lead with greater intentionality.”
Parr noted that while evangelism methods may vary, leadership remains the critical factor. The resource is built on the conviction that pastors shape the evangelistic culture of their churches through what they model, prioritize, and consistently emphasize.
Gameplan for Evangelism focuses on eight elements of evangelism: personal evangelism, prayer, the Sunday morning worship experience, event evangelism, ministry and service outreach, team-based efforts such as small groups, baptism planning, and taking the gospel to every home.
Each chapter is a brief, practical, look at a topic and concludes with application, allowing pastors to read the book sequentially or focus on specific areas where growth is needed. The resource also includes self-assessments for leaders to identify barriers that may hinder evangelistic effectiveness.
“One unique element of this resource is that the application is aimed at every level of leadership,” Parr said. “Ideas are included for bi-vocational pastors, full-time pastors without staff, and full-time pastors with staff.”
Parr emphasized that Gameplan for Evangelism is not intended to overwhelm pastors or suggest that every church must implement every strategy. Instead, he explained, the purpose is to help leaders strengthen two or three areas of evangelistic focus and allow God to work.
“This resource is available to any Georgia Baptist pastor or staff member at no cost, in either physical or digital format, upon request,” Parr said.
A video series corresponding to the eight evangelism elements is also scheduled for release in the coming weeks, providing an additional option for pastors who prefer visual training formats. Each video will run approximately 10 to 12 minutes and can be used individually or as part of group training and coaching.
Parr said the ultimate aim of Gameplan for Evangelism is to support pastors as they lead their congregations in reaching their communities with the gospel.
“We want to help pastors be more effective in their evangelism. When pastors lead with clarity and purpose, churches are better positioned to see people come to faith in Christ.”
